High Speed Data Acquisition System based on Xilinx Kintex-7

Client Background


Client is a government organization designing payloads for commercial applications like communications, broadcasting, navigation & imaging satellites and associated ground systems.

Project Information:


The project was to design High Speed Serial digital data formatter & data generator based on Xilinx Kintex-7 FPGA.

Client was looking for a partner who could turn-around the hardware design as per the below specifications

  • Base board with Xilinx Kintex-7 Module
  • 24 channel 150Mbps LVDS serial input
  • 1Gbps LVDS serial Output
  • 1 Tbits on-board non-volatile memory (eMMC), DDR3 RAM and 100MHz clock
  • Other interfaces like USB 2.0, 1Gbps Ethernet, RS422, SPI
  • 5VDC Power with Current Sense using Hot-swap controller for protection on power interface



Client chose Teq Diligent as a partner to design this data acquisition system based on its hardware design expertise. We delivered working prototype boards in stipulated schedule. The scope of work and some of the challenges involved:

  • Hardware architecture and component selection
  • Select appropriate PCB material for high speed operation (Rogers R4350 dielectric selection for 1Gbps line)
  • Board layout and design
  • 0.5mm pitch BGA routing, 4mil trace width
  • Testing and validation



  • The design was turned around in 4 weeks
  • Design done to meet noise as well as EMI/EMC specs
  • Teq Diligent team worked closely with Client’s engineering team throughout the design phase to ensure successful delivery as per the specs
