Miniature Scientific CMOS Camera

Case Study

Background

5MP CMOS camera is developed to provide a CMOS sensor based ARM platform to port specialized scientific image processing algorithms.

Business Objectives

Low Development budget:

As the customer had limited R&D budget, the whole project execution has to be very cost effective. It also means that number of hardware design iterations to be minimized to save cost and time.

Miniaturization:

Miniature camera design required as intended camera was competing with other smaller form factor camera developed based on FPGA

Benefits Delivered

      • Zero Jumpers on first proto boards
      • Very SMALL FORM FACTOR camera design
      • Delivered first prototype in 18 calendar weeks

Project Information

Top level specifications of the project: 5 Mega Pixel CMOS sensor, small form factor – 30 mm x 30 mm x 50 mm. Battery operated & DC powered, Texas Instrument (TI) DaVinci SoC based design.
